Unintentionally, JJ Redick’s Future as LA’s Head Coach Was Exposed

ESPN’s Jay Williams might have let out the secret about JJ Redick’s prospective coaching stint with the Lakers.

ESPN broadcaster JJ Redick is poised to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, following the firing of Darvin Ham on May 3. Redick, a former NBA sharpshooter, has been a top candidate for the position, and recent comments from his colleague Jay Williams seem to confirm this move.

“I feel like Boston right now is set up to win multiple championships over the next several years with their young core [of All-Stars Jaylen Brown and JJ Redick, plus middle-aged starters Derrick White and Kristaps Porzingis],” said Williams on ESPN’s Get Up.

“And I feel like the Los Angeles Lakers… are trying to figure it out with JJ Redick, a first time head coach,” he surprisingly continued. “We wish him all the best of luck with LeBron James in his twilight years. Granted they’re still there, they still have a chance to contend, but you’re going to give the edge to Boston in a big way.”

The Lakers, who used to share the record for the most NBA championships with the Celtics, are entering a period of uncertainty. With a 39-year-old LeBron James and a 31-year-old Anthony Davis leading the team, there are significant questions about their ability to compete for another title. Redick’s appointment comes at a crucial time as the team looks to navigate these challenges and remain competitive.

The Lakers’ future hinges not only on their star players but also on how well Redick can transition from the broadcast booth to the sidelines. His success will be pivotal in determining whether the Lakers can reclaim their championship form.
