Dawn Dickson, an African American serial entrepreneur who is founder and CEO of automated retail company PopCom, was able to raise nearly $2 million in crowdfunding for her businesses even in the middle of the pandemic. She says the pandemic actually opened more favorable opportunities for her and her businesses.
In 2019, Dickson raised $1 million in a secure token offering, making her the first female founder in history to do so. Last year, she raised almost $2 million more through her marketing and consulting companies. And she credits the pandemic for it!
The 41-year old businesswoman founded PopCom, an automated retail company that builds software for vending machines and kiosks that allows touchless, contactless, and fast retail transactions. The demand for her company’s technology has been more vital during the pandemic because it facilitates social and physical distancing.
“Right now I have multiple businesses that continue to do well because they meet needs that the pandemic accelerated,” Dickson told MadameNoire.
More than that, Dickson was also able to achieve a major milestone when she was awarded her first patent for the design of her PopShop kiosk last year, also during the pandemic.
