Moises Caicedo will reportedly sign a long-term contract at Chelsea after controversially snubbing Liverpool. The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for a while now and the Blues look set to finally secure his signature.

Chelsea remain confident they can still sign Caicedo despite Liverpool agreeing a £110million deal with Brighton, football.london understands. It’s believed that the Ecuador international hasn’t agreed personal terms with the Reds yet, even though the Merseyside outfit have prepared for his arrival at the AXA Training Centre.

Earlier this summer, Caicedo voiced his desire to join the west Londoners, describing the club as a ‘very big, historic, beautiful team. While Chelsea continue to work hard to grant the Ecuadorian his dream move, the personal terms which agreed to in May have been revealed.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Caicedo will sign a contract which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 2031. The report states that there will also be an option for a further year in his deal.

Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk penned eight-and-a-half-year contracts upon their arrivals in January — the longest ever in Premier League history. And, under a process called amortisation, the transfer fee payments which Chelsea will pay for the duo have been spread out across the length of their respective deals in order to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Had they signed a shorter deal instead then the annual payment calculation would be much higher, making it far harder for the Blues to comply with FFP regulations. While it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will structure their potential payments to Brighton for Caicedo in a similar manner, Todd Boehly is clearly eager to hold onto the world’s most exciting young players.

FIFA states that players’ contracts should be a maximum of five years unless the laws in said country say otherwise. In the United Kingdom, there is no restriction or limit.

Speaking to the press ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Liverpool had agreed a deal with Brighton for Caicedo. He said: “We want the player and not any kind of agreement.

“What did change is we are a club, we don’t have endless resources. We didn’t expect a couple of things to happen this summer; [Jordan Henderson, Fabinho] – stuff like this. We gave it a go and we will see. I’ve told you now what I know.”
