A lot of fans aspire to have John Wick’s remarkable physique, but it certainly takes a lot of time and dedication to get a ripped physique like actor Keanu Reeves. The actor’s personal trainer, Patrick Murphy, once revealed what he does in the gym in order to stay in good shape even in his 50s.

Without a doubt, Reeves’ role in the John Wick franchise was quite physically demanding but Reeves never says no to a challenge. The actor is well-known for doing most of his stunts in the franchise, so in order to prevent injuries, the actor follows a strict program made by his personal trainer which focuses on these three primary things.

Actor Keanu Reeves has done several action movies, however, the action in the John Wick franchise has always been quite intense for him considering that the actor is in his 50s. So, how does he do it? The actor’s personal trainer, Patrick Murphy, explained in 2021 that Reeves’ dedication is unparalleled,
“John Wick is one of the most physical roles in cinema history. The choreography, along with the multiple fight disciplines, tumbling, stunts, horseback riding, stunt car driving, gun training, and other various weapons training means KR’s body had been through hell and back. It’s about being able to maintain a positive rhythm with his joints and to reduce any pain as much as possible. KR is always ready to go and kick a-s in the gym. I put together huge rep schemes and he does it without blinking an eye. There isn’t any magic to it; KR puts in the work and reaps the benefit.”
The creators of the first John Wick movie met and spent two months with Reeves reworking the script to fit the actor’s age, who was 50 at the time.

In the gym, Reeves mainly focuses on these three things: endurance, core strength, and grip strength. In a 2019 interview with Men’s Journal, Patrick Murphy explained,
“Keanu is an animal. I never have to convince him to do another rep but our workouts are designed to make him feel good and strong, not destroy him. Because he is getting so beat up during the shoot as it is. John Wick needs crazy endurance, a powerful core, and grip strength. I spent a lot of time dreaming up different combinations and pairings of exercises.”
The actor mainly does intense circuit training with a large volume of reps and minimal rest. In the past, Reeves has stated that he loves doing his own stunts, so, in order to continue that, Reeves has to maintain a fit body.
