We are proud to consider dogs as part of our family, as they are cherished companions in our lives. However, we often come across stories of unfortunate animals who haven’t had the same luck. This was the case for a bulldog puppy who survived by eating leaves and suffered from severe mange, causing her to lose almost all of her fur.
When Slaughterhouse Survivors heard about the puppy, they acted swiftly. They could see that she had lost all hope and had resigned herself to the tragic fate that awaited her. Living on the streets, she would have eventually succumbed to her hardships.
The puppy was brought to a medical center and given the name Pumpkin by her rescuers. Despite her young age, she appeared melancholic and didn’t show much enthusiasm about being saved. She was clearly distressed, but would her new caregivers be able to heal her both physically and emotionally?
Upon examination, Pumpkin was diagnosed with severe mange, which had caused severe damage to her skin. Her body temperature was alarmingly low, registering as nonexistent on the thermometer. Pumpkin was on the verge of giving up. According to the veterinarian, she wouldn’t have survived another day on the streets.
Pumpkin received antibiotics, pain medication, and intravenous fluids. Warm saline was administered through an IV to help raise her body temperature. Miraculously, Pumpkin responded by gradually increasing her temperature. The vet diagnosed her with the flu but assured her that she would recover.
Once Pumpkin recovered from the flu, the rescuers began gently peeling off the scaly, dead skin from her body. She resembled a 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 hippo more than a puppy. However, with each passing day, Pumpkin’s condition improved, and her appetite increased. She underwent successful eye surgery.
Thanks to regular medicinal baths, Pumpkin’s fur began to grow back, a sign of progress. A rescue organization in Los Angeles found her a forever family. Pumpkin, now known as Kennedy, resides in California with her new family. She sticks close to her mother’s side and has a particular fondness for peanut butter.
Kennedy is thrilled to be in her true home. She enjoys playing with balls and even has a canine sister. For a dog that had a devastating start in life, things are finally looking up. It’s all thanks to the unwavering dedication of the rescuers who refused to give up on her.
