The NFL power couple Brittany Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes are known to be each other’s loudest supporters. From their high school days to date, they have been undoubtedly there for each other. Brittany has been seen attending Kansas City Chiefs’ games almost every week, supporting her husband from the stands. And the quarterback too has taken up his role well, helping his wife face all challenges and accomplishments with concerned efforts.
In a similar situation, Patrick Mahomes was witnessed investing in an important project with his wife almost a year back. Being a former soccer player. Brittany has been an inspiration for the KC women’s soccer team. For them, she built the CPKC Stadium at Berkley Riverfront Park, investing a huge amount, along with her husband. As KC Current celebrates its big milestone, celebrations bring forth the recollection of efforts from the Mahomes couple.
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes created history a year ago!
KC Current, the women’s soccer team of Kansas City, is celebrating a milestone today. Its official Instagram page posted a picture of the patrons Patrick Mahomes and Brittany, wearing the stadium’s construction helmet and attire. In addition to this, an overlaying tweet from the quarterback was written on it. It read, “I am thankful for the chance to join @brittanylynne as part of the @thekccurrent ownership team. She and the Longs (Chris and Angie Long) have done an incredible job building a world-class organization and I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”
Hence, it is a special day as they celebrate the anniversary of Mahomes’ investment in KC Current stadium. To acknowledge the efforts of the couple, especially the QB, KC Current’s IG page also shared a caption beside the post, reading, “A year ago today @patrickmahomes made history becoming the first active NFL player to have equity in a @nwsl team 🙌”
Before the National Women’s Soccer League enters 2024, this newly built $117 million stadium will help women professional athletes make the best use of the facility and prepare for the 2024 season. However, there is more to this “world class” stadium as it marks a big step in the field of soccer for women to aspire to play the sport.
Here’s what you should know about KC Stadium!
In 2020, the Current rejoined the league after a hiatus of two seasons. Now, in their third season back, they are unveiling a new chapter by making CPKC Stadium their new home. What makes this stadium special is that it’s the first one in the world exclusively built for women’s professional sports. This groundbreaking stadium is a result of a partnership between Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS).
Headquartered in Kansas City, CPKC is actively engaged in community initiatives, and the stadium, located at Berkley Riverfront Park, announced its first partner last year, “The Local Pig.” The team opened an $18 million training facility in June 2022, privately funded by owners: Chris and Angie Long and co-owners Patrick ($70 million net worth) and Brittany Mahomes ($10 million net worth).
This season marked the first full year using the facility, including a world-class locker room, multiple outdoor pitches, weight and cardio rooms, a FIFA-approved turf field, giving the Current control over their practices for consistency. CPKC Stadium is projected to seat 11,500, offering various seating options and in-stadium amenities.
The initiative not only provides a new home for the Current but also sets a milestone in supporting women’s professional sports globally.
