In the Major Leagues, Shohei Ohtani reaches 100 stolen bases

The Japanese Ohtani stole second base before pitcher Cal Quantrill was distracted, reaching his 100th in the Major Leagues.

Shohei Ohtani, the two-way baseball player, is dominating the Major Leagues, and it seems like something magical happens every time he plays. In a game against the Colorado Rockies, the Japanese player from the Los Angeles Dodgers achieved a milestone by obtaining 100 stolen bases in the MLB.

Ohtani received a walk to first base at the bottom of the third inning, with a score of 2-1 in their favor. He then stole second base, taking advantage of pitcher Cal Quantrill’s distraction, marking his 100th stolen base in the Major Leagues. Unfortunately, he was caught trying to steal third base due to an excellent play between Ezequiel Tovar and Ryan McMahon, who covered the area between second base and the hot corner.

Ohtani is a superstar both for his pitching and his hitting, but he’s not known for stealing bases. His highest number of stolen bases in a season was 26 in 2021, and his average per 162 games is 21. The modern-era record for stolen bases in a season is 130, achieved by Rickey Henderson of the Oakland Athletics in 1982.
