Is Elon Musk going to announce a $299 Tesla phone with satellite connectivity?

PolitiFact, a website specializing in verifying shocking news online, has published the results of its verification of information about Elon Musk announcing a $299 Tesla phone, causing a stir on social networks.

Social media posts quoted a quote attributed to billionaire Elon Musk: “A $299 Tesla phone will be the end of the iPhone.”

The post also touts the phone as costing just $299 but offering global satellite internet connectivity, solar charging, and seamless control of your car and home.

Under the posts, many people were excited to hear this information, because the price of the phone is so cheap while the features are very unique. But there are also people who are skeptical about the authenticity of this information.

VietTimes once published an article mentioning this phone model. In the article, billionaire Elon Musk was quoted as saying that Tesla has “too many things” to focus on, instead of producing a smartphone model.

VietTimes also searched for information about this $299 phone model from mainstream press sources on the Internet, but found no mention.

Meanwhile, PolitiFact, a website specializing in verifying shocking news online, has denied information about Tesla’s $299 phone.

“We have found no sources to confirm the claim that Mr. Musk said this. It does not appear in any credible news stories or public statements from Mr. Musk or Tesla. Neither phone appears on Tesla’s website,” the post said.

“We consider the information that Mr. Musk announced the Tesla phone to be false,” PolitiFact affirmed.

It is known that PolitiFact has a partnership with Meta (Facebook) and TikTok to exchange information and verify fake news.

Obviously, at this point, Elon Musk has not announced any phone model. And if he did, it would not be a phone model that costs $299 (7.6 million VND) and has advanced features such as satellite connection, solar charging, etc.

Therefore, social media users should not share information from unofficial sources. It is necessary to fact check information from many sources, especially from the mainstream press. The spread of false information can sometimes cause harm to agencies, organizations and individuals
