After 3 years of struggling in Medical school, Nigerian lady switches to Engineering, emerges overall best student with 4.90/5.00 CGPA

An exceptional Nigerian lady named Amarachi Osuji has defied the odds to become the best graduating student at the University of Debrecen, Hungary after earning her bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with an outstanding 4.90/5.00 CGPA.

Amarachi’s journey to becoming an engineer was unconventional. She initially enrolled in the university to study Medicine, but after three years of struggling academically, she realized it was not the right path for her.

”The journey to this point wasn’t straight or rosy at all. I went from being miserable for 3 years in medical school to thriving in engineering school and finally graduating with a 4.9 CGPA,” Amarachi shared on Linkedin.

Amarachi made the life-changing decision in 2016 to switch to Chemical Engineering—a choice she calls “the best decision I ever made.”

Despite starting an entirely new field, Amarachi not only adapted but also excelled with outstanding grades, graduating with distinction in 2020.

She expressed her deep gratitude to her parents, who supported and trusted her decision to switch careers, acknowledging their sacrifices and unwavering encouragement.

Amarachi’s academic journey did not stop there. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she proceeded to Tufts University, Massachusetts in the United States, where she obtained a master’s degree in 2023.

Now, she is currently pursuing a PhD in Biotechnology at the same university while also working as a Graduate Assistant.

In another story, a determined Nigerian lady named Chinonso Okonkwo has achieved an extraordinary academic feat, rising from a 2.2 GPA in her first year to an outstanding 4.69 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in her final year.

Her resilience and hard work ensured she secured a first-class degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

Chinonso who shared her academic journey on Twitter, narrated that she recalled that her first year was smooth and free of challenges, but things took a difficult turn in her second year.
