24-year-old Lady whose Doctor gave just 3 days to live defies odds, bags bachelors degree with honors at US university

24-year-old, Nekhidia Harris has defied all odds to achieved academic excellence, earning a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Medgar Evers College, United States—a feat doctors once deemed impossible.

At 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡, doctors gave Harris just three days to live. Her condition was so severe that medical experts predicted she would never walk, write, read, or develop basic motor s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s.

But three days turned into weeks, and then years. Defying every expectation, Harris was eventually discharged from the hospital and sent home with her family.

Despite enduring multiple surgeries and suffering numerous bone fractures throughout her life, she refused to let physical challenges define her. With unwavering determination, she pushed forward, eventually earning a college degree.

Harris pursued her education with unwavering focus. The journey was not easy—she faced sleepless nights, study sessions, and moments of doubt. But when she finally walked across the graduation stage, it was a moment of triumph.

“I was excited and then I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t want to cry. “They were tears of joy that I really got to this moment,” she said.

Reflecting on her accomplishment, Harris expressed immense pride and gratitude. “I feel so excellent. After the hard work, sleepless nights, and all-nighters, it feels really good to accomplish my bachelor’s degree in Social Work,” she said.

Now 29 years old, Harris has continued her educational journey, enrolling in a master’s program in Social Work at York College, Queens. Her passion for helping others inspired her career goals.

“I love 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, and they gravitate towards me. I want to help them in every way I can,” she said. Throughout her life, Harris  remained grounded in a powerful lesson from her father: “Use my brain as my height.” which has been her source of motivation.

Beyond her academic pursuits, she has also embraced her personal experiences as a platform for inspiration, offering hope and motivation to those in similar situations like hers.
