A fifth film in the John Wick franchise is officially in the works.
The chair of Lionsgate’s motion picture group, Joe Drake, recently revealed that the Keanu Reeves-portrayed assassin would return to the big screen in the near future during a recent earnings call.
The entertainment industry figure also expressed that the John Wick franchise, which recently hit the $1 billion mark, would grow exponentially in the coming years.
Drake began by stating via Total Film that, although the hitman would return in another feature, several other elements of his world would be fleshed out through separate media projects.
‘What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including [John Wick 5] and including television series,’ he said.

The media figure also stated that, although development on the fifth main entry in the film series would take time, the character would definitely return in the future.
‘We’re building out the world and when that [fifth] movie comes, [it] will be organic — will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick,’ he stated.
Drake then remarked that Lionsgate was committed to creating ‘a steady cadence of a franchise’ in response to ‘clear appetite by the audience.’
The entertainment industry figure also revealed that ‘AAA video game’ set in the film franchise’s universe was in the works.
The news about the upcoming feature was revealed just two months after the premiere of John Wick: Chapter Four.
The movie was centered on the Reeves-portrayed hitman and followed his journey of revenge against the High Table.
John: Wick Chapter Four was released in the United States on March 24, and it has since grossed nearly $429 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
The movie also received rave reviews from critics and currently holds a 94% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

The John Wick series’ longtime director, Chad Stahelski, previously spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and expressed that, although he was not attached to the idea of a fifth entry in the franchise, he would not be opposed to one.
‘I’m sure the studio has a plan. If everyone loves it and it goes kooky, then we’ll take a quiet minute,’ he said.
The filmmaker also spoke about how he would brainstorm ideas for John Wick movies with Reeves during trips to Japan.
‘We’ll have a couple 20-year-old whiskies and write some ideas on napkins. If those ideas stick, maybe we’ll make a movie,’ he stated.
