The Chiefs are keeping a secret weapon from you because Patrick Mahomes uses it

Mind games are an integral part of any sport. The same holds true for NFL wherein players, coaches, and team management utilizes mind games for optimal results. Often teams in NFL have deployed strategies that have forced the opposition to change their plans at the last stage. Playing around with the starting lineup, introduction of a new player or last-minute changes are all part of smart plays.

Recently, the Kansas City Chiefs revealed their secret card in one of their Instagram stories. The Patrick Mahomes side has been a force to reckon with in the NFL. However, they have a trump card in their arsenal that might be showcased ahead of the 2023/24 season. Quarterback being the most challenging position, Chiefs may try to remodel their strategies before their season gets up and running.

Sharing the same position as Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes plays in the quarterback position for the Kansas City Chiefs. However, there’s a new development in the team camp. Blaine Gabbert who signed with the team in April 2023 also plays in the quarterback position.

Given the wealth of experience and game awareness Mahomes possesses, he might surprise the opposition. The 2 times Super Bowl champion might throw a dice with playing Gabbert, the backup QB. What’s interesting to note is that Gabbert was previously GOAT Tom Brady’s backup QB. Now, the two times Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes, stands head and shoulders above in the QB position. However, given the season picks up during the months of November, Gabbert might feature in the final team. Mahomes would be tempted to try out the Super Bowl winner during the initial games.

Gabbert feels at home with the Chiefs

Blaine Gabbert has expressed his happiness with his new team- the Kansas City Chiefs. Talking about the joining, he said “It was pretty easy, just talking to Chad Henne for a while, then having a chance to talk to coach Reid and kind of pick their brains to see what they want in a backup.”

Gabbert is a backup for Patrick Mahomes at the Chiefs. He described it to be quite similar to backing Tom Brady.  Gabbert was the automatic choice for QB post-Brady’s retirement. He didn’t shy away from any compliments and regarded them highly. Gabbert was in awe of the entire coaching staff, the head coaches, and other guys in the background. The decade-old seasoned campaigner is eager to start on a positive note.

Patrick Mahomes is in a long-term capacity at the Chiefs. However, at times in the past, he has proven to be injury-prone. Therefore, the addition of Gabbert could strengthen the team and fill in for the 5 time All Pro winner if the need arises. Oh, how fun it would be to be in Gabbert’s shoes right now. Exciting times lie ahead for Blaine Gabbert!
