Only two Vikings make it onto the NFL’s prestigious annual list, leaving Patrick Mahomes’ backup quarterback out

The ‘Quarterback’ series dropped recently and went on to become a smashing hit offering an unprecedented peek into the lives of the league’s three prominent QBs. In an interview with the subjects of the series at the premiere of the show, Patrick Mahomes was asked about the most underrated quarterback in the league. Mahomes was quick to point to Kirk Cousins. “I think this guy right here,” he said, which was agreed upon by Marcus Mariota.

However, despite receiving high praise from the Super Bowl champion, Cousins faced a setback. The Vikings QB was snubbed by one of the prestigious lists while his two fellow mates made cuts to significant spots.

The QB is off the top list

The pro football network has dropped its highly anticipated top 100 player rankings, sparking discussions among fans. The list states their criteria right off the bat, ‘’Positional value was NOT a part of the ranking process. We are not discussing value but talent relative to the player’s position and his standing amongst peers.’’

While Cousins did not cut the list, wide receiver Justin Jefferson secured an impressive eighth spot, and the offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw came in at No. 87.

Patrick Mahomes topped the list clinching the first spot followed by Micah Parsons, EDGE player for the Cowboys, and Aaron Donald, DT for the Rams securing the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively.

High praise for Jefferson and Darrisaw

The list recognizes Justin Jefferson as ‘the best receiver in the NFL’. “He glides on the field, and his ability to manipulate defenders with pacing and stride length while attacking leverage is unmatched. But Jefferson can also go up and get the ball and makes no qualms going over the middle. He’s a three-level threat who should have an easier job in 2023 with a bit of help coming his way offensively in Jordan Addison and a full season of T.J. Hockenson,” it observed.

On the other hand, the list points out that Darrisaw always had the mettle to shine.“It was only ever a matter of time for Christian Darrisaw. Penei Sewell and Rashawn Slater vacuumed up most of the buzz surrounding the 2021 OL class, but Darrisaw had that same kind of ability coming from Virginia Tech. Darrisaw played well but was very obviously a rookie in 2021. He was excellent at protecting Kirk Cousins a season ago, and he’s one of the most dominant run blockers in the NFL at the position”.

Darrisaw’s impressive ranking places him as the eighth-best OT in the league despite being one of only three tackles to have top-ten PFF run & pass-blocking grades in 2022.
