Lucas Giolito Is Excited to Work With Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, According to the Angels

Lucas Giolito is coming home. The LA native was traded to the Angels on Wednesday for catching prospect Edgar Quero and pitching prospect Ky Bush, and one of the first things you’d imagine is “how is he going to fit in?”

Well, needless to say, Giolito is excited to play alongside his new teammates and make a run at something special this year.

“Being able to be his teammate — between him and Mike Trout, two of the best guys in the league — I’m very, very excited. It’s going to be a very, very fun kind of journey the next few months here.”

The Angels went all in to get some help down the stretch. They took Shohei Ohtani off the market, acquired Giolito to help with pitching depth, and gave up two of their top prospects that they could’ve used to build for their future.

So, Giolito’s role in the clubhouse is simple: Win.

Anything less than a playoff appearance, shoot, anything less than at least an ALCS appearance would be a disappointment after the Angels could’ve moved Ohtani to build up their farm system and plan for the future.

Unfortunately, he lost his debut on Friday night, but Giolito will be a welcome sight for many fans though, as the Angels rotation, and quite frankly the Angels in general have kind of lived and died by Shohei Ohtani.

Giolito had a 3.79 ERA, he’s pitched 121 innings and struck out 131 before coming to the Halos.

He’ll fit in very nicely as a number 2 pitcher behind Shohei, and hopefully he’ll provide a little bit of a spark to the Angels rotation.

Do you think the Angels should’ve traded for him? Or do you think they could’ve seen what they could’ve gotten for Shohei?
