Six Manchester United players could leave in the summer to make way for Sofyan Amrabat’s arrival at Old Trafford. The Red Devils need to reduce their squad to ensure they can meet their top targets this summer. Previously, they have already parted ways with David De Gea, Anthony Elanga, and Alex Telles permanently. However, big-money deals for players like Mason Mount and Andre Onana have already cost them nearly £100 million, while their transfer budget for this summer is only £120 million.
To comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules and secure the signing of their top target Sofyan Amrabat, they will have to offload some players. Time is running out for MU, with less than a month left before the transfer window closes.
Amrabat has emerged as one of Manchester United’s top transfer targets. However, the Fiorentina midfielder’s price tag of up to £50 million has made it difficult for MU to acquire him. The Moroccan star shone at the 2022 World Cup and helped knock out Ronaldo’s Portugal in the quarter-finals. Morocco was a nightmare for CR7 and could have ended his World Cup ambitions.
Here are the six players Manchester United could sell to raise funds for Amrabat:
First is Eric Bailly, who is almost certain to leave Manchester United this summer after an unsuccessful loan spell at Marseille. Bailly returned to Manchester this summer but was left out of the squad by Erik Ten Hag ahead of the new season. His time in England looks to be coming to an end, with more and more links to Al Nassr.
Next, the future of another star, Dean Henderson, is also uncertain. The goalkeeper spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and was expected to return this season, but negotiations have gone quiet as Forest target a new goalkeeper.
Manchester United will need to create space in midfield if they want to sign their top target Sofyan Amrabat. Fred has been linked with a move to Fulham, among other European clubs, but Galatasaray seems the most likely destination. With one year left on his contract, Manchester United will hope to make some money from the Brazilian midfielder to fund new signings.
Meanwhile, Scott McTominay is another midfielder who could be offloaded from Old Trafford before the summer transfer window closes. West Ham has shown interest in the Scottish international as they continue to search for a replacement for Declan Rice. Manchester United has reportedly set a £40 million asking price for McTominay, which would make him the highest-earning departure alongside Fred.
Finally, Brandon Williams and Donny van de Beek are unlikely to feature in Ten Hag’s plans this season. Williams made just one appearance for Manchester United last season, in the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Burnley. As for Van de Beek, the midfielder has struggled for regular game time and would benefit from a move away. According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Sociedad is the only club to have approached Manchester United for the Dutch international.
The need to offload players is increasing, with a £75 million deal for Atalanta striker Rasmus Holjand reportedly close to completion. The 20-year-old is expected to undergo his medical this week.
