Tom Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, is in jeopardy five months after Patrick Mahomes took a $9 million pay cut

Is Patrick Mahomes gearing up to snatch Tom Brady‘s throne? With Brady’s retirement, many have anointed Mahomes as his ‘successor’. The 2X MVP remains one of the most formidable quarterbacks in the league, yet struggles to make the list of top-paid athletes, much like the football GOAT himself. About five months ago, Mahomes took a staggering $9 million pay cut, without hesitation, in order to clear up cap space, echoing a move often associated with Brady.

It’s the selfless actions that truly define a great player, and it’s no wonder the majority of fans view Mahomes as a potential new football GOAT. He, however, is relentlessly pursuing that crown, showcasing his dominance in the league and mirroring Brady’s path step by step.

Patrick Mahomes etches his name in NFL history

While the past season may not have offered Brady the farewell he envisioned, it unquestionably unfolded as a breathtaking spectacle for the two-time MVP. Beyond guiding his team to Super Bowl victory, he also claimed the MVP title, stacking up an impressive array of accomplishments. And to anyone’s expectation, Mahomes secured his spot at the top of the “Top 100 Players of 2023” list as well.

Mahomes’ ascendancy to the number one spot has been monumental for the athlete, as he now stands as the only athlete, besides TB12, to secure the rank multiple times. Having attained this distinction for the second time, Mahomes finds himself with just two more steps to match Brady, who astonishingly claimed the top spot a remarkable four times. Since its inception in 2011, only a select few athletes, including Mahomes and Brady, have ever reigned supreme on this coveted list.

However, the Chiefs‘ star quarterback hasn’t confined his prowess solely to football. Gradually, he continues to etch his legacy even across different sports, steadily notching achievements that parallel Brady’s, one after another.

Mahomes has narrowed the gap on the golf course

The two-time MVP isn’t just offering TB12 some serious competition on the football field, but also out on the golf course. While Brady and Aaron Rodgers once dashed Mahomes’ dream of winning Capital One’s The Match, this year he finally got his moment. The Chiefs’ star QB and his buddy Travis dominated the tournament, adding golf to his list of achievements alongside the 7-time Super Bowl champ. A thrilling victory against NBA legend Stephen Curry has now paved the way for future appearances, setting the stage for Mahomes to challenge Brady’s prowess as a golfer.

Despite Mahomes’ strides, the former QB still holds the upper hand in several areas, most notably the prized Lombardi trophies. Mahomes has a considerable journey ahead to match the unattainable heights Brady has scaled over his illustrious career. It will surely be intriguing to see how the upcoming season pans out for him and if he can make the top place once again.
