With such dynamism in her performances, while also taking into account her tenacious nature, many of her co-stars in her films have to put everything they have to keep up with her, which is something she respects. But when she heard about a certain star that would be joining her on-screen, she had a very sly dig that she took at him which might’ve implied something.

Popularly known for portraying the character of Lara Croft in the iconic Tomb Raider series along with her ruthless performance in Salt, Angelina Jolie is pretty accustomed to playing the role of a certified bada*s female character that’s there to take some names. When she had the chance to become part of one of the most compelling film projects that would later turn out to become the biggest action film of the year, she had no hesitations or reservations about it, except for the fact that James McAvoy was going to be her co-star.

In a past interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Maleficent actress had a casual conversation related to her personal and professional life, talking about career decisions and similar things. Here, when she was asked what pushed her to choose her role in Wanted, which also starred Morgan Freeman, she said that it was a phase in her life when it felt right to bring a little aggressiveness into it. She didn’t understand why the Split star was alongside her in the film because she thought he only did simple films with little to no action. She said:

“I was in between A Mighty Heart and Changeling, which were two very, very emotionally difficult films to do. And my mom had passed away in that year. And I’d had a 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦. So everything in me was just feeling very fragile. And so, knowing myself, I thought, What I need to do most is get up and get focused and get aggressive and get out of myself a little bit. We discussed that at home — that that would be good for me. Then I read this and knew they were casting McAvoy, and I thought, That sounds really unusual. I met Timur and I knew that he’d include a story. I know that sounds odd, but a lot of action movies rely so much on generic special effects or a story we’ve heard before.”

While it may have been a sly dig at him to jokingly call him a simple actor with fewer physical roles, their on-screen chemistry was one of the reasons why the film went on to become a smashing hit.

Considered to be one of the biggest action hits of all time, Timur Bekmambetov’s Wanted tells the tale of an average office worker named Wesley Gibson who has nothing going for him other than his monotonous and boring life. But one day, he’s contacted by a woman named Fox, who tells him about his estranged father and how he used to be a world-class assassin before he was murdered.

Now, facing a situation where he has to choose to leave his old life behind and join the assassin group that his father was a part of or end up dead like him, he chooses the prior, which pushes him on a journey to become a bona fide 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁er.
