‘Chelsea can punish Man City like Tottenham’

Paul Merson believes that Man City’s approach could benefit Chelsea, similar to the match against Tottenham earlier in the week.

Paul Merson predicted a favorable outcome for Chelsea against Spurs, but ultimately, Ange Postecoglou’s team’s unbeaten run since the start of the season came to an end with a 1-4 defeat at home.

Chelsea will host Man City at home this weekend, posing a tougher challenge. However, Paul Merson still assesses that Chelsea can make it difficult for Man City.

“If Chelsea gets a draw, that’s a good result. But 38,000 fans at Stamford Bridge want their team to win, not just try not to lose by 2 or 3 goals. When you play for big teams, you are expected to go out and win, or at least try to win. Tottenham had to attack Chelsea, and that’s why I think they couldn’t get a good result. That plays into Chelsea’s hands. Man City will be the same. Chelsea will cause problems, but Man City also creates enormous problems.

This is a game that Man City knows they have to play well to win.”

Chelsea has shown signs of improvement, winning 5 out of their last 7 matches across all competitions. Manager Pochettino is starting to mold the players into a system to produce the best results.

However, the chances for Chelsea to compete for a top 4 spot are not very bright. With a poor start, they are trailing 9 points behind the top 4. It’s challenging to narrow this gap as the leading teams are performing consistently, not to mention the numerous competitive opponents above Chelsea
