Baseball: Dodgers amaze Giants with Ohtani’s 26th home run

Shohei Ohtani broke a third-inning tie with a solo home run, his National League-leading 26th, on Saturday for the Los Angeles Dodgers in their wild 14-7 11-inning win over the San Francisco Giants.

A day after the Giants won on a walk-off home run at Oracle Park, the Dodgers bounced back after starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow allowed five runs in three innings, taking a 6-5 fourth-inning lead.

The Giants tied it in the fifth inning, and the game remained tight until Los Angeles, having dodged a 10th-inning bullet, erupted for seven runs in the 11th.

The Giants matched the Dodgers’ 10th inning run, and with the potential winning run on third and one out and just two teammates in the outfield behind him, Dodger reliever Dan Hudson (5-1) got a strikeout and a foul popup to earn the win.

Ohtani went 1-for-4 with two walks and a strikeout. He scored in the 11th when he was intentionally walked with first base open and scored on Will Smith’s tie-breaking two-run double.

In Boston, a pair of former Pacific League stars squared off with San Diego Padres lefty Yuki Matsui retiring Boston Red Sox designated hitter Masataka Yoshida in the Padres’ 11-1 victory.

Yoshida was hitless in three at-bats, while Matsui struck out two in a scoreless sixth. Matsui has not been charged with a run in his last 11 games.
