With Disney’s live-action remakes becoming increasingly common, the studio just proved that a live-action Frozen movie may be closer than anticipated. The Frozen franchise has broken many box office records, including Frozen 2 becoming the highest-grossing animated movie of all time. It is easily one of Disney’s biggest animated IPs in years, making it a strong candidate to be adapted into a live-action format. While there haven’t been many recent updates about the potential live-action Frozen movie, it seems inevitable that it will happen eventually, and one announcement from Disney means it could happen even sooner than expected.
Disney’s live-action remakes have had mixed success over the years. While The Lion King and Alladin’s remakes found massive box office success, the likes of Dumbo and The Little Mermaid didn’t hit financial expectations. This proves that even though Disney has made the format work on some occasions, live-action remakes don’t guarantee success. Despite this, Disney doesn’t appear to be changing their strategy. Frozen’s live-action adaptation isn’t confirmed, but Disney has officially given one other project the greenlight, which not only makes a Frozen remake far more likely, but it proves it could happen soon.
