LeBron James delivered heartfelt message to young athletes before he was named to carry USA flag with Coco Gauff in Olympics Ceremonies

Before LeBron James made more history, he offered free advice.

James was named on Monday as the USA’s flag-bearer for the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony.

The unique event will be held Friday on the River Seine in Paris.

Two days before James was announced as the first men’s basketball player to carry the flag for Team USA, he was asked about the advice he would give to young athletes who are trying to increase their confidence playing the sport.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer and a 20-time All-Star said that “work” has been at the core of everything that he’s been able to accomplish in a career that will certainly end up in the Hall of Fame.

James rivals Michael Jordan as the greatest player in league history.

On Saturday, head coach Steve Kerr turned to the 39-year-old forward to lead Team USA past South Sudan 101-100 in the final seconds.

James was also a big hit with fans inside a packed 02 arena.

“When it comes to confidence, I think there’s no substitution for the work,” James said in London.

“You just have to put the work in. If the sport of basketball is what you want to do and you have a passion for it. You love it.

“You have to put the work in. Find ways to play the game, find ways to train, find ways to get better.

“Watch the game, study the game, and I think it all pays off. When you give to the game, the game automatically gives to you.”

The king of the NBA said he strongly believes that if someone wants to play basketball for a living, they must fully subscribe to the process.

“I love this and it’s something I want to do,” James said. “I think it’s all about the work.”

James proved those words true on Saturday, scoring a game-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting and sinking the game-winner via a driving layup with eight seconds remaining.

“He’s just got such an incredible competitive spirit and confidence in the clutch,” Kerr exclusively told talkSPORT.

James entered the NBA in 2003 as a No. 1 overall pick out of high school and was dubbed the Chosen One.

He’ll be participating in his fourth Olympics and is aiming for his third gold medal, which would surpass the two that Jordan won.

Before James returns to the hardwood in France, he’ll carry the flag for Team USA to start the 2024 Olympics.

“It’s an incredible honor to represent the United States on this global stage, especially in a moment that can bring the whole world together,” James said.

“For a kid from Akron, this responsibility means everything to not only myself, but to my family, all the kids in my hometown, my teammates, fellow Olympians and so many people across the country with big aspirations.

“Sports have the power to bring us all together, and I’m proud to be a part of this important moment.”

James powered the US to another close win over Germany and went 2-0 in London.

Next up is Paris and carrying the USA flag for the world to see.

Coco Gauff will share the honor with James for the Opening Ceremonies.
