NBA fans looking forward to seeing Bronny James play alongside his superstar father LeBron James on the LA Lakers may have to wait for some time as the team is reportedly planning to use the second-round selection primarily in the G League this season.

The Athletic‘s Jovan Buha reported on the matter, writing how the Lakers deem the young James still far from being a rotation-worthy player and needing more seasoning in the NBA’s minor league organization.

Buha wrote:

“And though Bronny James had an impressive end to summer league, at least by his modest expectations, the Lakers plan on using him primarily in the G League as he remains far from a rotation-caliber player.”

James was selected 55th overall in this year’s NBA Draft. Many doubted his decision to declare for the draft, more so being drafted by the Lakers, following a so-so lone collegiate season at USC.

With the Trojans, the six-foot-two guard averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists on a 36.6% shooting clip in 19.4 minutes of play in 25 games. He missed the early part of the season, as he recovered from a cardiac arrest he suffered the prior summer.

In the four NBA Summer League games, Bronny James averaged 8.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and an assist in 25 minutes.

With the Lakers, James looks to make history by playing alongside his dad LeBron, becoming the first father-and-son duo to do so in NBA annals.

Bronny James says he is open to whatever assignment the Lakers may give him in rookie season

If reports of Bronny James being sent to the G League by the LA Lakers turned out to be true, the 19-year-old said he would not mind it, focused on what he needs to do to get his professional career going.

The son of NBA superstar LeBron James admitted that he is still finding his footing in the league and he is willing to put in the work regardless of where the Lakers put him.

Bronny James shared with reporters during their Summer League campaign:

“I’m just looking forward to any basketball I play — no matter what level I’m playing at.”

James continues to be a topic of discussion in basketball circles for declaring for the draft this year and being selected by his father’s team.

However, he is undeterred by it and looking forward to eventually proving his worth in the pros with full support from ‘The King.’
