Spanish couple Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem could be on Hollywood producers’ “blacklist” after accusing Israel of carrying out “genocide” against Palestinians.
The Spanish couple, actress Penelope Cruz and actor Javier Bardem, could be blacklisted by Hollywood producers after accusing Israel of carrying out a “genocide” with air strikes in the Gaza Strip that 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ed thousands of Palestinians.
Oscar-winning actor Bardem and his wife Cruz signed an open letter denouncing the “genocide carried out by the Israeli army.” The letter accused the Israeli army of expanding its occupation into Palestinian territories, instead of withdrawing troops from the area agreed between the two sides along the 1967 border.
“The people of the Gaza Strip are living days of horror, while the international community turns a blind eye to them.” The letter written in Spanish received responses from 100 powerful figures in the film industry, including
However, as revealed by the Hollywood Reporter, a top producer who worked with Cruz said he swore to himself that he would never invite her to participate in future projects. Another prominent Hollywood figure also expressed his disagreement, saying that he was very angry with Javier and Penelope and that he was unlikely to collaborate with the pair any further.
Relativity Media CEO Ryan Kavanaugh is the only studio head willing to voice his views publicly: “As a descendant of the generation of Jews who survived Hitler’s genocide, I know that anyone who calls what is happening in Israel genocide is either ignorant or anti-Semitic.”
However, Kavanaugh does not believe that this letter will harm the careers of these two actors when their films are always popular in theaters.
Bardem played the villain in the latest James Bond 007 film, “ Skyfall ,” while Cruz is currently filming “ Pirates of the Caribbean 5. ”
The Gaza conflict has also sparked a huge controversy in Hollywood. The latest is the case of comedian Joan Rivers who made shocking statements saying that Palestinians “deserve to die” for waging war on Israel./.
