Shohei Ohtani, the MVP, will appear on stamps that Japan Post will distribute

TOKYO — Japan Post Co. announced on Nov. 22 the release of a set of stamps featuring Shohei Ohtani in recognition of him being awarded National League MVP in U.S. Major League Baseball this season.

The premium framed stamp set comes with five 110-yen (approx. 70 cents) sticker stamps and a holder showing records that the Los Angeles Dodger set this season, lauding him for becoming the first designated hitter to capture an MVP title in MLB history. A microfiber towel measuring 68 by 100 centimeters, on which Ohtani’s detailed at-bat results and home run records are printed, accompanies the set.

Priced at 7,260 yen (approx. $47) including tax and shipping, the stamp set will be produced by order, and available to anyone. Applications will be accepted from Nov. 27 through Jan. 31 over postal office counters and via Japan Post’s online shopping site. The product is expected to be delivered within three weeks after April 12.

This is the fifth time that Ohtani has made it into Japanese commemorative stamps. He had last been featured in stamps this October, when they were released to celebrate his 50 homers and 50 stolen bases in a single season — also an MLB first.
