Tiger Woods’s Old Friend Backs Rory McIlroy As Unsettling PGA Tour-PIF Future Causes Worry

Rory McIlroy had a brilliant plan to unify the golf world, and it was an idea that sparked a lot of interest. As the golf world remained divided between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, McIlroy had been vocal about his desire to see a unified golf world. The Northern Irishman had even come up with a plan to achieve this goal, and it was nothing short of brilliant. McIlroy’s vision involved creating a global tour that brought together the best golfers from around the world. The tour would have featured a limited field of around 70-80 players, comprising the top talent from the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, and other leagues. This would have ensured that the competition was fierce and golf play was of the highest quality.

The global tour would have had a unique schedule, moving from east to west and back into the United States. McIlroy had identified several key regions that would have been included in the tour, including the southern hemisphere (Australia, South Africa), the Far East (Korea, Japan, China), and the Middle East (Dubai, Saudi Arabia). While McIlroy’s plan may have seemed ambitious, he believed that it was the key to unifying the golf world. “I didn’t think it would look too dissimilar to what it was right now, but maybe the front end of the year and the back end of the year might look a little different,” he had said in an interview.

Recently, Tiger Woods’s ex-coach Hank Haney went on X to express the same opinion as McIlroy once had. In his latest tweet, Haney replied to a fan’s tweet who was referring to LIV Golf’s format as more enjoyable compared to that of the PGA Tour. ” LIV was much more fun”, said the fan to which Haney expressed that he believes that the current golf landscape is fragmented and in need of a unified approach. The existing golf pie is only so big, and he thinks that the focus should shift towards creating a worldwide professional golf tour.

He finds it puzzling that it has taken so long for a plan to emerge, and he wonders if poor management is to blame. “The current golf pie is only so big. Focus needs to be on a worldwide pro golf tour. DPWT/LIV seems to make the most sense unless the PGA Tour decides it wants to be the leader in world golf. Hard to figure out why it has taken so long to come up with a plan. Poor management?.”

Now this sparks another controversy because of what Tiger Woods said about the latest update on the PIF-PGA Tour merger, as the merger could have been a positive step in that direction.

Tiger Woods’s words on the potential merger are no short of a bombshell

The proposed merger between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) has been a topic of intense debate in the golf world. The latest update on the negotiations has revealed that a deal may be imminent, with a reported £1BILLION peace deal being negotiated with the help of Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods. However, the accuracy of this report remains unconfirmed, and Woods himself has cautioned that even if a deal has been reached, it would still be subject to approval by the US Department of Justice. As Woods put it, “Even if we would’ve had a deal done by now, it’s still in the DOJ’s hands.”

The ongoing negotiations have been shrouded in secrecy, with key figures such as Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Jay Monahan, and Tiger Woods remaining tight-lipped about the progress. Woods did offer a nuanced update, stating, “Wish we had something more concrete than we have right now.” This lack of clarity has left the golf world eagerly awaiting official confirmation, and the situation remains fluid as the negotiations continue.
