Nigerian man whose father borrowed money to sponsor his education finally earns first-class degree in Physics Energy, celebrates success

Nigerian man whose father borrowed money to sponsor his education finally earns first-class degree in Physics Energy, celebrates success.

A determined Nigerian man named Lukman Abiodun Olawale has graduated with a first-class degree in Physics Energy from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), achieving an impressive 4.62 cumulative grade point average (CGPA).

In an interview with Legit NG, Lukman revealed how his father’s selfless decision to borrow money during his third year of university kept his academic dreams alive.

Despite severe financial struggles that left him without transport or food, leading to health issues like ulcers, Lukman refused to give up. His father’s unwavering support became a turning point, allowing him to overcome those challenges and continue his studies.

Lukman’s academic excellence was not always a given. Reflecting on his early years, he shared how he transformed from an average junior secondary school student into an exceptional senior secondary school scholar through hard work and curiosity.

One of Lukman’s key strategies was his proactive approach in the classroom. “I strive to understand at least 60% of the material being taught before the end of each class or lecture by asking questions about new concepts in mathematics, physics, and chemistry,” he explained.

He also emphasized that academic excellence is achievable for anyone, regardless of natural ability. “Each individual is unique, and different methods work for different people,” he added, encouraging students to find strategies that suit their strengths.

However, the academic journey was not easy. Financial struggles peaked in his third year, leaving him on the brink of quitting. Yet, through sheer determination and his father’s sacrifices, Lukman persevered.

His determination and hard work paid off when he won the NEAR Foundation Scholarship in his fourth year, which eased his financial burdens and allowed him to focus fully on his studies.

While excelling academically, Lukman maintained a well-rounded lifestyle. He engaged in extracurricular activities like football, chess, and video games, which helped him manage stress and stay motivated.

Looking ahead, Lukman’s ultimate dream is to become a researcher in Climate Science, Material Science, or Quantum Science, contributing to the advancement of human civilization.
