Some social media users are defending the 44-year-old, claiming the backlash to her now-deleted post ‘isn’t really fair.’
Kim Kardashian has found herself in a bit of hot water over what she did and didn’t post to her Instagram page this week.
On Wednesday, internet personality and comedian Meredith Lynch put the reality TV star on blast after seeing that she had shared several posts to her Story promoting her SKIMS brand earlier that day.
In a Jan. 8 video uploaded to Instagram, Lynch called attention to–and shared her disbelief at–the 44-year-old’s decision to count down to the SKIMS winter sale as many others evacuated the Los Angeles area, which she calls home, or learned that the deadly wildfires rampaging the county had destroyed their houses, cars and businesses.
In her rant, the TikTok personality explained that the SKKN by Kim namesake posted the content “two hours ago” and included apparent screenshots of her now-deleted Stories showing off the on-sale collection with no mention of the current events.”Absolutely unhinged that @kimkardashian whose businesses and livelihood have and continue to be LA based is legit posting @skims stories while thousands of people and animals have lost everything,” Lynch wrote in the accompanying caption. “If you have a platform like hers you should be posting resources @losangelesfiredepartment @watchdutyapp.”
Several other Instagram users joined in criticizing The Kardashians star, with one suggesting that since she lives in the area, they thought she would feel compelled to publicly support her community. “I don’t know why, but I actually expected them to speak up about this since it’s their hometown,” they wrote.
“I’ll never understand how people can support them,” a second shared, calling the family “completely out of touch with reality.”
