A single mother of 1 earns Nursing degree while working to care for her 7-year-old son, celebrates success
A determined single mother, Tyliah Williams has achieved a major milestone by earning a nursing degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana, all while working and caring for her 7-year-old son.
Taking to LinkedIn to share her joy, Tyliah exclaimed, “MOMMY DID IT!” She reflected on the long and challenging journey, expressing her pride in finally reaching her goal. Despite life’s hurdles, she persevered, and her sacrifices have paid off.
Tyliah described the last semester of nursing school as especially challenging. She shared that while the journey wasn’t the path she initially envisioned, she is proud of her accomplishments.
She thanked God for guiding her through difficult times, removing people who didn’t belong in her life, and blessing her with wonderful new friends who supported her along the way.
Acknowledging her support system, Tyliah expressed deep appreciation for her mother, who played a vital role in helping her care for her son, Karson, while she balanced work and school. Her mother’s unwavering support made all the difference.
She also thanked her nursing school friends, saying. “We kept each other going, stayed on each other, and always gave each other that push and words of encouragement! I love y’all!”she said.
To her son Karson, Tyliah shared a heartfelt message: “I’m so glad I can finally watch you play games and enjoy movie nights with you. I’m sorry for the times I was grumpy and stressed, but it was all for you. Mom guilt be gone! Best believe I earned it!”
Tyliah began her nursing journey at Delta College, where she earned a Licensed Practical Nursing diploma. Now, she is excited to begin her new role in the Labor and Delivery unit at Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital.
Looking ahead, Tyliah dreams of advancing her career by pursuing a master’s degree in nursing. Her story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of a supportive community.
