Tiger Woods ex-coach Hank Haney reflected on his concern over people betting in the tech-infused golf series, TGL, after PGA Tour pro-Billy Horschel made a quirky comment about the series. Woods, in collaboration with Rory McIlroy, launched the brand-new TGL series, which started its first season on January 7.

On January 21, its third match successfully concluded with Atlanta Drive Golf Club registering their win against New York Golf Club. However, following the game, Atlanta Drive’s player Billy Horschel commented about the series. He said:

“We’re having a great competition. Obviously, the last two weeks have been blowouts, and this one isn’t. Jeff, the producer, has asked us nicely to keep it close, and we’re trying to accommodate him as much as we can.”

Tiger Woods’s ex-coach reshared Horschel’s comment on his X (formerly Twitter) account along with the caption:

“Omg and people are betting on these matches and he says that, I mean that was not smart.”

Notably, the TGL is a tech-infused golf series, which takes place on 15 holes in two different formats. The first nine holes are played in triples, while the remaining six are played in singles. It features six teams of four players each. However, only three of them can play in a game.

Billy Horschel clears his stance on his comment about TGL

Horschel’s comment about the TGL series grabbed the attention of the public. However, he soon took to his X account to clarify his stance. The American golfer said it was a joke. He wrote:

“Anyone ever heard of sarcasm or a joke! 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️. Sorry if I suck at it. 😂😂. I think we (both teams) clearly showed that we wanted to win every hole possible.”

Meanwhile, during the press conference of the tournament, he opened up about the competitive nature of the series. He said (via ASAP Sports):

“Every player in TGL is a competitive mother– and that’s they’ve done their entire career. They’ve won; they don’t want to lose. Even though this is a fun atmosphere, they want to win, and at the end of the day competition is going to come out and you saw it tonight. You can still be competitive and still be fun in this scenario, and I think we did a perfect job of that.”

Notably, it was the third matchup of the TGL series. It started with the Bay Golf Club registering their win against New York Golf Club in the first week, followed by Los Angeles Golf Club’s win against Jupiter Links in the second week, and then Atlanta Drive’s win on January 21. The next game will take place on January 27, when Jupiter Links will play against the Boston Common Golf Club.
