In 1970, Maye Musk married Errol Musk, an engineer in South Africa. However, the marriage quickly fell apart and the couple divorced in 1979. In 1989, the single mother and her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren moved from South Africa to Toronto, Canada.

At that time, Maye Musk had to work 5 jobs at the same time to be able to support her family. The most important of these jobs was working in a research lab at the University of Toronto so that her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren could take courses there for free.
