Brilliant African lawyer achieves success in the UK, earns masters degree and bar admission

A brilliant Ghanaian lady named Jennifer Akyeampong has achieved outstanding success in the United Kingdom by earning a Master of Laws (LLM) in Immigration Law and being called to the Bar of England and Wales within a year.

Jennifer’s journey to becoming a lawyer began in 2013 when she enrolled at the University of Ghana for a pre-law degree. She graduated in 2017 with a bachelors degree in Political Science and Archaeology.

From a young age, she had always dreamed of becoming a lawyer, referring to herself as “Barrister” even before the dream materialized.

Determined to fulfill her aspirations, she moved to the United Kingdom, where she pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Kent as a graduate-entrant.

A “graduate entrant” refers to someone who has earned a bachelor’s degree and is pursuing further education at the graduate level, often in a professional field like medicine, law, or business.

After two years of studies at the University of Kent, she proceeded to the University of Law (UK), where she earned a Master’s degree in Immigration Law in 2020.

The same year, Jennifer sat for the Bar exam, passed successfully, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales—a fulfillment of her dream.

Despite this achievement, Jennifer never forgot her Ghanaian heritage, where the dream started. In 2022, she enrolled at the Ghana School of Law and, in 2023, was called to the Bar of Ghana’s Supreme Court.

With her qualifications, Jennifer is now licensed to practice law in both Ghana and the United Kingdom. Reflecting on her journey, Jennifer shared how she  envisioned herself as a barrister for more than a decade and worked relentlessly to turn that dream into reality.

”For more than 15 years I called myself “Barrister Serwaa” even when the dream has not manifested. I went on to change my handles on my socials to reflect the same. Today what I spoke into the ears of God has become my reality,” she said.

She expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support of her family, especially her father who believed in her potential and kept encouraging her even when she wanted to give up.

”A special thanks to my family and friends, most especially my dad who believed in me even when I didn’t . He did everything humanly possible to see me through. Having attained this height for him, I feel so fulfilled because he gave his last penny to see me become a Barrister!” she said

Jennifer described her journey as the most difficult challenge she has ever faced, but she remained determined and committed to her goal.

Now, with her goals accomplished, Jennifer is ready to dream bigger, forge new paths, and embrace a bright future ahead.
