25 PORRIDGE Actors Who Have Tragically Passed Away

The beloved British sitcom “Porridge,” which aired from 1974 to 1977, is fondly remembered for its sharp wit and unforgettable characters. However, over the years, many talented actors who brought the iconic show to life have sadly passed away. In a heartfelt tribute, we remember 25 members of the cast who are no longer with us, celebrating their remarkable careers and the legacies they left behind.

Fulton Mackay, who portrayed the strict prison officer Mr. McKay, was a standout character known for his clashes with the clever inmate Fletcher. Mackay, 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 on August 12, 1922, passed away on June 6, 1987, at the age of 64 due to stomach cancer. Another notable cast member, Sam Kelly, played the well-meaning but dim-witted inmate Warren. He died on June 14, 2014, at the age of 70.

Brian Glover, who portrayed the intimidating yet not-so-bright inmate Heslop, passed away from a brain tumor on July 24, 1997, at 63. Richard Beckinsale, who played the young and optimistic Lenny Godber, tragically died of a heart attack on March 19, 1979, at just 31.

Ronnie Barker, who famously portrayed Norman Stanley Fletcher, passed away on October 3, 2005, at the age of 76. His character’s wit and warmth endeared him to audiences, making his loss particularly poignant. Other cast members, like Peter Vaughan as Harry Grout and Maurice Denham as Raley, also left lasting impressions on the show and its viewers before their deaths.

This tribute serves as a reminder of the profound impact these actors had on British television and the enduring legacy of “Porridge.” Their performances not only brought laughter but also resonated with audiences, ensuring that they will not be forgotten.
