Former President Barack Obama has broken his silence on the news of Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis.
Biden’s personal office released a statement explaining: “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” and “On Friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
It’s reported that Biden and his family are currently discussing “multiple treatment options,” with medical professionals, which may include hormone therapy. Experts have said they believe he has a “very good chance” of achieving remission.

Before being tapped to be Obama’s running mate in 2008, the two men were colleagues in the Senate and developed a close friendship during their eight years in the White House together. Biden would often fill knowledge gaps in the administration, including his work in getting Obama’s signiture piece of legislation, the Affordable Care Act, through Congress.
Outside of sharing the executive branch for eight years, Obama and Biden share the unique former president moniker, a title only two other living men share.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Obama wrote: “Michelle and I are thinking of the entire Biden family. Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace. We pray for a fast and full recovery.”
Many of his 129million followers agreed, with on replying: “Sending lots of love and positive thoughts to President Biden and his family. He’s helped so many people in their toughest battles—hoping he feels that same support now. Wishing him a speedy and smooth recovery!” Another penned: “We are all joining hands with you in prayer for the healing and recovery of President Biden. He’s a fighter and we’re rooting for him.
A number of high profile political figures have sent their well wishes to Mr Biden and his family, including Donald Trump. Writing on Truth Social, Trump said: “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
Trump’s fellow Republicans also commented on the news of Biden’s diagnosis. Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins said she was “saddened to hear of President Biden’s cancer diagnosis and am wishing him and his family well as he begins treatment.” North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis said he was “praying for his full recovery.”
But, sadly it seems a number of online trolls have been “mocking and celebrating” Mr Biden’s health news. Taking to X, formerly known as Twittrer, Piers Morgan urged people to “show some respect”.
