NBA Fans Debate Whether Bulls Would Have Won 1999 NBA Championship If Michael Jordan And Other Players Returned

The Chicago Bulls dynasty will go down as perhaps the best ever, not just in basketball, but in all of sports. Led by Michael Jordan, the Chicago Bulls dominated the NBA during the 1990s. While their first three-peat was incredible, it was their second three-peat that cemented them as all-time great. But could they have won one more NBA championship?

NBA fans on Reddit debated over whether the Chicago Bulls would have won the 1999 NBA championship had Jerry Krause, the GM of the Bulls, brought back Phil Jackson, and the players like Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman, among others would return.

Surprisingly, there was no consensus on whether the Bulls would have won it all. Firstly, the Bulls were much older going into 1999, and players usually decline with age. Secondly, the 1999 season was shorter because of a lockout between the NBA and the NBPA. And thirdly, the San Antonio Spurs drafted a rookie Tim Duncan, and paired him with perennial All-Star David Robinson, to create a formidable duo.

Could The Bulls Have Had A Four-Peet?

One can make an argument both for and against the Bulls winning the 1999 NBA championship. While there is merit in the idea that the Bulls were much older, they were coming off three consecutive NBA championship wins, and despite their age, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were still two of the best players in NBA history.

Pippen and Jordan were an incredible duo, and when Jordan left the NBA to play baseball, Scottie definitely missed his presence, even admitting as such during the 1994-95 NBA season. Could the Bulls have won it all in 1999? That’s a question we will never have an answer for.
