Shohei Ohtani has the power to make fans feel all kinds of emotions. Unfortunately for this tiny fan, those emotions resulted in a lot of tears.
It all went down Sunday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Ohtani was at the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Dodgers leading the Washington Nationals by a lot, 12-3.
Ohtani came to the plate with one out and smashed a ball to left-center. A fan sitting by the outfield fence had the chance of a lifetime to catch the ball. The ball landed in his glove before rolling out and back onto the field.
Play was briefly suspended for a crew chief review. The umpire couldn’t immediately determine if Ohtani hit a home run or if it was fan interference. Fortunately, there was no fan interference. The fan came in contact with the ball just behind the outfield fence. Ohtani was waved home after the umpires ruled it a home run.
But the ball rolling back to the outfield had the little boy super sad.
This little boy was in tears after Shohei Ohtani’s home run ball over the weekend was dropped by his dad 😢
His dad later spoke to the media and said it was because the ball hit him and it hurt.

Shohei Ohtani’s 27th home run bounces off little kid’s forehead. I hope he’s OK. @SportsNetLA #Dodgers pic.twitter.com/UIigMtHMhR

You can see he started crying. A lot. Even the Dodgers announcers felt bad for the little fella.
No word if the little boy eventually got his own baseball. But he definitely had it better than a little boy who took an Ohtani home run ball to the face when everyone in the right field pavilion stands failed to catch it.
