The Los Angeles Lakers have received big news regarding LeBron James a couple of days after the player made some worrisome comments about his future.
The four-time NBA champion set the alarms when he announced he would ponder his future, which made a lot of people think he would hang the boots soon. Now, the rumors have been cleared and LeBron is ready to play one more season with the Lakers.
“Beyond James’ retirement decision — which could be a nonissue, with a source close to James telling ESPN on Thursday that he believes the Lakers star will indeed be back for season No. 21 and fulfill his contract — the biggest question facing the Lakers this offseason is figuring out what to do at point guard,” Dave McMenamin of ESPN reports.
This is great news for the Lakers, who could have been in a complex position should LeBron end his career this summer. The player still has a lot in the tank, and he could play for as long as he wants. Everybody knows he’s a key piece for these Lakers, and losing him would be huge for the Purple and Gold.
Fortunately, the player isn’t leaving them hanging after a season where they made it to the Western Conference Finals after a 2-10 start. They still need to make some decisions on their point guard position, which includes Kyrie Irving and Trae Young as potential newcomers, while D’Angelo Russell is likely on his way out.
LeBron James Scared Everybody With His Comments About Retirement
After the Denver Nuggets swept the Los Angeles Lakers to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history, LeBron made some comments that raised some eyebrows around the league.
The King said he will have to reflect on the season to make a final decision on his career, but all of that has faded now. The Lakers have a lot of work to do this summer, as LeBron is set to embrace a new role on this team.
James is still elite, he’s one of the best players in the association right now and as long as the Lakers keep him on the roster, they will have a chance against anybody.
