Sasha and Malia Obama look unrecognizable in rare photo shared by Barack Obama

Sasha and Malia Obama have changed over the years. The daughters of Barack and Michelle Obama grew up in the White House, living there for eight years of their lives. Naturally, the girls changed and grew up, with photographers documenting it all. In a new photo shared by Obama, the girls’ growth and change is immediately apparent.

The photo was shared on Mother’s Day and shows Sasha and Malia alongside their mother. The image is in black and white and shows Michelle flanked by her daughters, with the three of them looking at the camera.

While Michelle holds on to Malia’s face, Sasha holds on to her arm and smiles for the camera. “Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms and mother-figures!” reads Obama’s post.

“Michelle Obama, the girls, and I are so lucky to have you in our lives. We love you.”

Michelle Obama’s emotional Mother’s Day

For her part, Michelle celebrated her first Mother’s Day without her mom, Marian Robinson, who passed away in May of last year. It marked an emotional occasion for Michelle, who discussed her feelings on social media.

“This Mother’s Day will mark my first without my mom. My mom was many things: whipsmart, fiercely independent, kind, courageous, and determined. She was incredibly forward-thinking, and was someone we could always count on to be there for us, especially during those White House years,” she wrote.

Michelle revealed that she and her brother Craig often discuss their mother and included a chat between the two on their podcast, “IMO.”

“You find yourself managing other people’s grief. With somebody like mom, who was in her own right, amazingly… After all these years, she was a famous person,” says Michelle in the clip. “She meant a lot to so many people.”

“It’s amazing,” agreed Craig.
