Love, break-ups and even marriages are at times mere career moves in showbiz. The fact often exposes itself in Bollywood when two stars miraculously ‘fall in love’ around the time when a big film is announced, only to conveniently break up once the film has gone. 

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have reportedly broken up. The news has been the hottest item on the Bollywood gossip-vine, ever since it broke out on Monday.

While the duo never confirmed or denied rumours of the alleged affair in all these years, they have not said anything to validate reports of the split, too.

Meanwhile, various possible reasons have started doing the rounds.

While many say the duo has become too busy with escalating stardom, the common reason forwarded is marriage.

While Ranveer, it has been pointed out, was keen to get married and start a family, Deepika last month declared in an interview she was neither engaged nor did she have any plans to get married any time soon.

The statement, it seems, did not go down well with Ranveer. Gossip about Deepika’s affair with Ranveer started doing the rounds when the duo had just signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s designer biggie Goliyon Ki Ras Leela: Ramleela, around 2013.

The buzz that the duo garnered with their mushy tales off camera immensely helped the film generate hype, especially because it was a love story woven around the much beaten Romeo-Juliet template.

When Bhansali cast Deepika and Ranveer as regal lovers in Bajirao Mastani next, letting the flames of gossip grow only suited the duo.

Gossip about Deepika’s affair with Ranveer started doing the rounds when the duo had just signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s designer biggie Goliyon Ki Ras Leela: Ramleela, around 2013.

They were seen cosying up to each other in public regularly and gushing about each other in interviews.

Rumours also mentioned how Ranveer and Deepika went on vacations together.

Deepika is charting an international high right now with her impending Hollywood debut in Vin Diesel’s next, XXX: Return of Xander Cage. Ranveer, too, is all set for the release of Aditya Chopra’s comeback biggie Befikre.

The film’s trailer has already become a talking point for the steamy scenes he shares with Vaani Kapoor.

Perhaps, being ‘in love’ does not help Deepika or Ranveer any more.

They have Bhansali’s Padmavati lined up. The film does not cast them as lovers. Deepika as Rani Padmavati is cast opposite Shahid Kapoor, who plays her husband Rana Rawal Ratan Singh.

Ranveer is cast as Alauddin Khilji and will essay sinister shades of the sultan, as the film accounts Khilji’s manic obsession for Padmavati.
