He has been named to six straight Pro Bowls dating back to the 2018 season.
But the two-time MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion didn’t make the top three in the AFC this year.
The AFC’s quarterbacks were Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow.
Mahomes will be rested for the Chiefs’ Week 18 clash at the Denver Broncos.
Kansas City is already assured of the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.
And that means Mahomes’ passing and touchdown stats will not improve this year.
He threw for 3,928 yards – the lowest number ever barring his rookie year when he played one game.
And his 26 passing touchdowns is his joint worst return along with 2019.
But that year he threw only five interceptions and played just 14 games compared to 16 this year.
Despite his statistical struggles, Mahomes continues to be a winning machine for the Chiefs.
Joe Burrow ‘has beaten Patrick Mahomes consistently’ claims ex-NFL star as he makes bold declaration on live TV
They have a 15-1 record and are perfectly placed for a third straight Super Bowl title.
Mahomes’ favorite target Travis Kelce somehow made it in despite his worst ever season.
The tight end, 35, could still be feeling the Taylor Swift effect after topping the fan vote.
Kelce has a newfound fame thanks to his relationship with the music icon.
And he racked up 252,200 votes, ahead of Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs in second with 250,082.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was a distant third with 242,352 votes.
Kelce’s 823 receiving yards and three touchdowns through 16 games are both career lows.
His previous low for yards was in his rookie year of 2014, when he got 862 in 16 games.
And Kelce’s low for touchdowns in a season was four in the year 2016.
The tight end has been voted to the Pro Bowl for nine consecutive seasons.
The only time he wasn’t named in the selections was in his rookie year, 2014.
But both Kelce and Mahomes rarely get to play in the game.
They are often too busy with Super Bowl preparations having played in four each.
The Pro Bowl takes place in Orlando, Florida on February 2 this year.
And the Super Bowl is a week later in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 9.
